Why should I donate through yes4Good?
Here are four key reasons to donate through yes4Good:
- 100% of your donation goes to your chosen charity. Optus covers the administration fees.
- It’s tax effective - yes4Good is a simple and tax effective way to donate to charity. You can make a once off or regular donation from your fortnightly or monthly pre-tax income, resulting in an automatic tax reduction. There's no need for you to worry about keeping receipts or to wait until the end of the financial year to obtain a tax benefit – the benefit is immediate through pre-tax giving.
- It offers flexibility and choice – Our employee research told us that you wanted choice when it comes to workplace giving. yes4Good has more than 250 charities and hundreds of projects which you can choose to support. It also offers you the flexibility to decide when and how often you’d like to donate money and whether you want to give to a specific project or to a general fund for your preferred charity.
- Optus will donate to your preferred charity – Optus will match your donations up to $300 per person per year with a charity gift voucher to donate to your preferred charity listed on the website.
How does pre-tax giving work?
A workplace giving donation is deducted from your pre-tax salary. Tax is calculated each pay less your donation, which means you pay less tax. The benefits of pre-tax giving are:
- Reduce your taxable income as donations are deducted from your pre-tax salary.
- Receive a tax deduction without the need to keep receipts for tax purposes.
- Spread donations over the year, rather than making a larger one-off donation.
How does it affect my tax?
yes4Good makes the donation process easier and more effective. It simplifies your tax deduction claim, and delivers the benefit of tax deductibility to you immediately, rather than waiting for tax return time.
The tax deduction you would normally get at the end of the year is brought forward and applied immediately, so you don't have to find receipts for donations at the end of the year.
Your payment summary at the end of the financial year will detail your donations. For more information on how this will affect your tax, visit the Australian Taxation Office website.
What are the giving options?
There are two giving options:
- Give once: Make a single donation to the charity or project of your choice.
- Donate regularly: Donate to the same charity or project each pay cycle. You can choose to give to more than one charity.
Are there any administration costs?
You do not pay any administration costs for using yes4Good. Optus has a formal partnership with Good Company which sees us pay an administrative fee on behalf of our employees who donate.

How should I choose a charity to donate to?
There are hundreds of worthwhile charities and projects on yes4Good. Your decision to support one charity over another is usually based on your interest in the cause. Some useful questions to ask yourself include:
- What am I passionate about?
- What do I feel most strongly about?
- What is the problem I’d like to fix?
- Who are the people I want to help?
How often can I change my donation?
You can change your donation as often as you like. However, please be aware that changes must be made before the cut-off date for each pay cycle, otherwise your changes will be implemented in the next pay period. The cut-off dates are displayed on ‘My Account’ page, within the Workplace Giving folder. To visit ‘My Account’, simply click on your name in the top right hand corner, then click the Workplace Giving folder on the left hand navigation menu and the cut off dates will be shown.
If you are changing the amount you give, or changing the frequency of your donation eg from 'every pay' to once only', or quantity (units) of your donation, you will need to delete it and add the donation again.
Can I cancel a donation?
If you’d like to cancel a donation, please visit your Workplace Giving Account and your next pay cycle cut-off date will be displayed there. Changes will need to be made before that date. Donations cannot retrospectively be cancelled once processed through payroll.

Please note any employee who doesn’t cancel their donations, will be automatically removed from the program when their employment ceases at Optus.
You can still continue your donations by contacting the charities directly.
Why have you increased the number of charities on the program?
In 2012 we conducted an employee survey and focus groups to find out how to attract more employees to participate in workplace giving. The overwhelming feedback was that you wanted to choose your own charity rather than be limited to donate to the 13 charities on the program. In response to this feedback, we have invested in the yes4Good program which gives you more choice and flexibility when it comes to donating.
I am involved with a charity outside of work and would like to include them on the website. What is the process?
Charities must meet certain criteria to join the program including Deductible Gift Recipient (DGR) Item 1 and Tax Concession Charity (TCC) status.
You can check to see if a charity has DGR item 1 by doing a search here.
If they meet the criteria, send the details through to Goodcompany here.
There is an annual fee to register with Good Company.
How can I track how much money I’ve donated?
yes4Good keeps a history of your donations. Simply click on your name in the top right hand corner and select ‘donations’ in the left hand navigation to view your history. Donations will also feature on your payment summary at the end of each financial year.
Does 100% of my donation go directly to the charity?

Is there a minimum donation amount?

Is there a maximum donation amount?

What if I have a problem making a donation?
Please refer to these frequently asked questions in the first instance. If you cannot solve your problem, email Goodcompany here.

These appeals are communicated to Optus employees during the year through Optus communication channels.
